Every month the McHale Report will host an online roundtable with experts from the defense electronics industry ? from major prime contractors to defense component suppliers. Each roundtable will explore topics important to the military embedded electronics market. This month our roundtable of industry experts discuss how the slight increase in the Department of Defense?s (DoD?s) overall Fiscal Year (FY) 2017 budget request affects embedded commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) electronics providers. Also discussed are which applications are best bets for COTS, market fluctuations, risk management, and predictions for potential defense budgets under a Clinton or Trump administration.

Standards -- VPX, CompactPCI, etc. -- are a thing of the past - Blog

There are lots of standards out there, such as VPX. But what actually makes a standard standard? I'll use VPX as my example. According to my definition of a standard, I should be able to remove a CPU board from the box and replace it with another CPU board, regardless of the manufacturer, and have it come up and running with fairly minimal effort.

RANCHO CUCAMONGA, Calif. General Micro Systems, Inc. (GMS) engineers have developed a rugged, conduction-cooled, secure virtual machine (SVM) server that has six hardware independent I/O modules. The Tarantula, developed to replace multiple workstations with one box via the use of virtual machine technology, leverages an enterprise-level Layer 2 or Layer 3 intelligent switch for high-speed connectivity.

GA-ASI demonstrates Northrop Grumman EW capabilities on Predator B - News

WASHINGTON. General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA ASI) announced at the 2013 Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) that the Predator B Electronic Attack capability was successfully demonstrated at the Marine Corp Air Station (MCAS) in Yuma, AZ. The demonstration displayed integration of a jamming pod containing a Northrop Grumman Digital Receiver/Exciter into a GA-ASI Predator B Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) to evaluate the system’s Electronic Warfare (EW) capabilities.
