Enhanced sensor dissemination demonstrated by GA-ASI

PARIS AIR SHOW. General Atomics Aeronautical Systems, Inc. (GA‑ASI), has announced that a Predator B Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) surrogate used Lynx Radar to detect moving ground-based targets, which were then automatically cross-cued to the Star SAFIRE for target visual identification using the Claw payload control software. The operation took place at the annual U.S. Navy Trident Spectre experiment at the Joint Expeditionary Base Little Creek-Fort Story, VA from May 8-18.

A King Air 200 equipped with Lynx Multi-mode Radar and FLIR’s Star SAFIRE 380HD Electro-Optical/Infrared (EO/IR) imaging system used the GA-ASI Claw payload control software to quickly disseminate data to naval commanders. This allowed commanders based in the Tactical Operations Center (TOC) to review the data, modify follow-on mission, and re-task aircraft in an ad-hoc fashion. The sensor imagery was also streamed in real time to other government entities.

“Our primary goal was to provide all-weather, day/night Lynx radar and EO/IR data on moving ground targets and disseminate that information to the Navy’s shore-based TOC,” says Linden Blue, President of the Reconnaissance Systems Group at GA-ASI. “The mission was successfully executed and marked a historical milestone by demonstrating the ability to provide Lynx and EO/IR instantaneously via a tactical common data link for dissemination to the warfighter.”
