SEATTLE. Boeing has fulfilled half of its contract to deliver eight P-8I maritime patrol aircrafts to India. The fourth aircraft departed from Boeing Field in Seattle and arrived at Naval Air Station Rajali, where it joined three other P-8Is.
The P-8I is the Indian Navy variant of the P-8A Poseidon that Boeing developed for the U.S. Navy. The fourth P-8I aircraft will underdo flight trials in the next coming months, reported Leland Wight, Program Manager for Boeing P-8I.
The P-8I incorporates not only India-unique design features, but also India-built subsystems that are tailored to the country’s maritime patrol requirements. The P-8I features advanced sensor and display technologies, open system architecture, and a worldwide base of parts, suppliers, and support equipment.
