Modular, open-architecture radar system to be demonstrated by Raytheon for Navy

TEWKSBURY, MA. Officials at the Office of Naval Research (ONR) tasked Raytheon to further develop an Enterprise Air Surveillance Radar (EASR). The company's EASR concept uses existing Radar Modular Assembly (RMA) architecture that has been proven on Air and Missile Defense Radar (AMDR) platforms. EASR will be able to meet the performance needs of various candidate ship classes for ship situational awareness, self-defense, air traffic control, and weather monitoring.
The Radar Modular Assembly (RMA) affords EASR the scalability to be used on a variety of ship sizes across a diverse set of mission requirements ultimately offering reduced total ownership cost across all the EASR equipped platforms through the use of open architecture designs. The RMA has been designed and tested to prove that it operates successfully in the stressing EASR naval marine environments.
Raytheon officials say the company's Dual Band Radar (DBR) and SPS-49 development experience is directly applicable to EASR. Raytheon's EASR approach will apply proven technologies and leverage investment by the Navy and Raytheon in the ONR Digital Array Radar (DAR) and AMDR programs. The study demonstration contract from ONR is valued at $6 million.
