Army awards $93 million unmanned drone contract to Kratos division

SAN DIEGO. National-security solutions company Kratos Defense & Security Solutions announced today that its Composite Engineering subsidiary (Roseville, California, part of Kratos Unmanned Systems Division) was awarded a $93 million firm-fixed-price contract from the U.S. Army Contracting Command to build advanced subscale aerial drone systems, an unmanned target aircraft with launchers and associated ground equipment and spares.
These subscale aerial drones, while not as large as enemy aircraft, are designed to mimic their flight patterns and electronic signatures. According to earlier information from Kratos, Composite Engineering already manufactures similar drones for the Navy and the Air Force, including the BQM-167A remotely-controlled target, for evaluating how well air-to-air weapons work.
Work under this recent Army contract award will be performed at secure Kratos manufacturing facilities and at customer locations.
