NASA selects Cobham's actuators for Mars 2020 mission

HAUPPAUGE, N.Y. NASA officials have selected Cobham’s actuators to drive rover wheels and provide steering motion, move the high-gain antenna, and perform remote sensing mast deployment for the Mars 2020 mission.

Its mission is part of the NASA Mars Exploration Program's long-term robotic exploration of the red planet. Malin Space Science Systems also selected the actuators for two of the mission cameras. Both awards total an estimated $20.5 million.

"We believe Cobham actuators were selected for Mars 2020 due to our successful track record on the NASA Mars Curiosity Rover launch in 2012," says Bill Brown, vice president of Cobham Motion Control.

Cobham Integrated Electronic Solutions will perform work under this contract at the Hauppauge, New York site.
