Unmanned combat vehicle prototype put through its paces by U.S. Army

ARLINGTON, Va. The U.S. Army conducted trials with the Textron "Ripsaw" M5 Robotic Combat Vehicle, one of the candidates the service is considering for its RCV-M [Robotic Combat Vehicle -- Medium] program, according to photos recently released by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD).
The Ripsaw M5 tracked unmanned ground vehicle (UGV) -- developed by a team consisting of Textron Systems, Howe & Howe, and FLIR Systems -- is kitted out with the FLIR SUMIT imaging module, which uses both visible and infrared sensors to enable360-degree situational awareness for remote vehicle operations.
The RCV-M is planned to weigh between 10 and 20 tons and will be capable of integration with unmanned aerial systems (UASs).
