Rockwell Collins' flight management software receives first FACE verification statement

PAX RIVER, Md. The Future Airborne Capability Environment (FACE) consortium issued the first FACE Verification Statement to Rockwell Collins Missionized Flight Management Software (MFMS-1000) once it completed verification authority tests and inspections.
Engineers determine the conformance of a software implementation to specification requirements of the FACE Technical Standard – a standard of The Open Group – during the verification process.
A reusable software product, the MFMS-100 can be used across different avionics systems. Troy Brunk, vice president and general manager, Airborne Solutions for Rockwell Collins says, “The FACE version of our MFMS-1000 is designed to enable the Navy to affordably meet Required Navigation Performance Area Navigation (RNP RNAV) requirements on aircraft currently without this capability such as the AV-8B, V-22 and MH-60R/S, as well as those used by the other services.”
The FACE Consortium developed the FACE Technical Standard to define an open avionics environment for airborne platforms with the primary goal to create reusable and interoperable software capabilities, as well as support the U.S. Department of Defense's Better Buying Power (BBP) Modular Open Systems Architecture initiative.
A founding member and sponsor of the FACE Consortium, Rockwell Collins also holds multiple leadership position at the steering committee and subcommittee levels.
