Four New AdvancedTCA White Papers from Emerson Network Power

Eletter Product

Emerson Network Power has published four new white papers on Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (AdvancedTCA® or ATCA®). You can download all four as a single zip file.

What is ATCA?

This white paper gives an introduction to the standard covering mechanical characteristics, hardware platform management, and data transport. It goes on to discuss open system management standards that have developed on top of the ATCA specification and concludes with a view to the future for ATCA.

ATCA: Now & Next

This white paper provides an overview of the current state-of-the-art in ATCA, discussing where it's being deployed, what kinds of applications and technologies are driving its growth, its relevance in the context of all-IP cloud deployments, and what the future may hold for the standard products and adoption.

ATCA for Military, Aerospace and Other High Performance Embedded Computing Users

The compact and power-efficient with moderate ruggedness of ATCA now makes it the ideal choice for military, aerospace and security equipment makers. This paper addresses the forces driving the requirements of high performance embedded computing (HPEC) for military and aerospace applications, including the modular open system approach (MOSA), commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS), and reduced size, weight, power and cost (SWaP-C) as it applies to ATCA.

Traditional methods of digital signal processing (DSP) have used specialized FPGA equipment, multiprocessor VME and OpenVPX solutions, but a new class of computing has the potential to replace some of those expensive highly specialized processing elements. ATCA is an open computing standard that has a significant amount of value to military applications requiring a huge amount of processing. Advances in microprocessor technology and accompanying software will make ATCA a very powerful signal processing technology for future complex signal processing applications.
