ROME. Defense and aerospace company Leonardo has been chosen to develop and deliver the NATO Alliance Ground Surveillance (AGS) Logistics Information System (ALIS) integrated logistics platform. Leonardo has already served as a member of the Northrop Grumman-led industrial team for the delivery of the NATO AGS Core System.

Under the terms of the new contract, Leonardo will develop, execute, and maintain services for the ground-based elements of NATO AGS, ranging from the supply of spare parts to operator training. Main ALIS functions will handle planning, control, and management of the supply chain; maintenance and repair activities; field-service activities; accounting; warehousing; and  personnel employment and training. The ALIS will be also used to support the NATO maintenance function's requirement to comply with continued and continuing airworthiness guidelines.

AGS is aimed at providing security for civilians and ground forces in NATO countries and is intended to improve crisis management through the use of remotely-piloted aircraft and ground systems.
