U.S. Navy contract modification supports Littoral Combat Ship (LCS)

The U.S. Navy has awarded Bath Iron Works located in Bath, ME, a contract modification for $12.6 million for class design services for the Littoral Combat Ship (LCS). Under the modification, the company will render the technical, program, and engineering support needed for ships under the LCS class umbrella. Such support includes class documentation services, class baseline design services, cost estimating support, class engineering studies, and LCS ship transition in addition to serving as a liaison with the class design agent during ship construction and also after delivery for LCS 6 and follow-ons.

Most of the work (52 percent) is slated for Bath, ME, and 47 percent will occur in Pittsfield, MA. The remaining 1 percent transpires in Mobile, AL, with all work completion anticipated to occur by June 2014. The contracting activity is the Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington, D.C.
