Military GPS contract worth $247 million reported by BAE Systems

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa. BAE Systems' military GPS business unit has begun work on a $247 million contract from the U.S. Space Force’s Space and Missile Systems Center to design and manufacture an advanced military GPS receiver and next-generation semiconductor. 

According to BAE Systems officials, the technology will provide positioning, navigation, and timing (PNT) capabilities to warfighters in order to execute missions in challenging electromagnetic environments.

Greg Wild, director of Navigation and Sensor Systems at BAE Systems, said of the contract: “This program enables us to further develop our core M-Code technology to deliver high-performance, next-generation GPS capabilities. Our M-Code receiver and next-gen ASIC [application-specific integrated circuit] will enable secure and reliable military GPS capabilities in a broader range of platforms.”

The Military GPS User Equipment Increment 2 Miniature Serial Interface program is aimed at improving capabilities for size- and power-constrained military GPS applications like precision-guided munitions and battery-powered handheld devices. The program will focus on certifying an advanced ASIC and developing an ultra-small, low-power GPS module, both of which will work with the next-generation military M-Code signal technology, which provides antijam, antispoof GPS data to protect against electronic warfare (EW) threats.
