FAIRFAX, Va. General Dynamics Mission Systems (GDMS) announced that it has been awarded a $731.8 million cost-plus-award-fee and firm-fixed-price indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity sole-source contract for the Mobile User Objective System (MUOS) ground system sustainment. The contract was awarded by the U.S. Navy Nov. 8.

MUOS is a next-generation satellite communications system to provide secure voice and data communications for U.S. forces worldwide. GDMS provides the integrated ground segments for MUOS intended to provide secure cell phone-like communications for warfighters on the move.

According to the company, MUOS was deemed operationally effective, operationally survivable, and cyber survivable, following completion of its Multiservice Operational Test and Evaluation (MOT&E).

Most of the MUOS work will be completed in Scottsdale, Ariz., and completion is expected by November 2029.
