Unmanned aircraft system (UAS) design/build company AeroVironment has introduced its new Snipe Nano Quad -- a miniature (Class 0), field-rugged UAS designed to support close-range intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions -- and announced that the initial delivery of 20 Snipe systems to a U.S. government customer took place in April.

The U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has granted the very first commercial Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) operation over land to BP and UAS manufacturer AeroVironment. Together, the companies plan to use AeroVironment’s Puma All Environment (AE) UAS for aerial surveys in Alaska.

AeroVironment, Inc. has released its new secure digital video and date receiver, Pocket DDL, at the 2013 Association of the United States Army (AUSA) Annual Meeting and Exposition in Washington, DC. The Pocket DDL weighs only four ounces, and enables remote viewing of video and data from airplanes, helicopters, ground robots, Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UASs), and other unmanned aircraft that are equipped with AeroVironment’s Digital Data Link (DDL).

WASHINGTON. AeroVironment announced at the 2013 Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) conference that a Puma AE Small UAV (SUAV) powered a long endurance battery and by Alta Devices solar technology achieved nine continuous hours of flight during a recent outdoor flight test. The Puma AE’s 9 hour and 11 minute flight is longest endurance of any SUAV in its class.
