ARLINGTON, Virginia. Leonardo DRS won another contract to provide its Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) technology, which will be incorporated into the Common Infrared Countermeasure (CIRCM) systems for U.S. military aircraft, the company announced in a statement.

CIRCM, a laser-based infrared countermeasure system, operates by tracking and intercepting incoming missiles. The integration of DRS's QCL technology allows for effective missile engagement, the company says, adding that the system recently achieved initial operational capability on Army aircraft, which marks an advancement toward broader deployment across more than 1,500 helicopters.

These laser systems, described by the company as multi-color and lightweight, have potential for further applications across various defense platforms.
