SonoFlash sonobuoy acoustic sensor to equip French Navy

FRANCE. Announced at the Euronaval show in October 2018, the French Navy has selected the SonoFlash new-generation sonobuoy from Thales to enable France to reach its strategic capability goal for acoustic sensors.
Thales developed the SonoFlash buoy, a new-generation sonobuoy with a performance-to-mass ratio that builds on the company's expertise in sonars and acoustic sensors to offer an the new solution.
According to the company, the SonoFlash buoy is designed to offer a combination of an optimized low-frequency transmitter with a high-directivity passive receiver. With these two capabilities, and long endurance, the SonoFlash buoy is intended to be suitable for various deployment scenarios.
Coupled with the FLASH dipping sonar, for example, the SonoFlash buoy is designed to enable an aircraft to expand its coverage area and respond with agility to evasive maneuvers by a submarine. With its digitized signal and communication range, the SonoFlash buoy data can be exploited by a piloted or remotely piloted aircraft, naval vessel, or shore center equipped with a sonobuoy processing system.
