Northrop Grumman designates five centers of excellence in consolidation effort

FALLS CHURCH, VA. Northrop Grumman has designated five U.S. centers of design and integration excellence as part of a long-term effort to reduce facilities and costs. The centers will consolidate work supporting the company’s Aerospace Systems sector in the areas of manned aircraft, unmanned systems, and electronic attack, and integrate work from elsewhere at sites in Florida, New York, and California. Northrop also announced plans to close its Dominguez Hills, CA, Information Systems sector facility, and complete the closure of the Norwalk, CT site.

Aircraft design activities previously performed at Northrop’s Bethpage, N.Y. site will now be performed at the Manned Aircraft Design Center of Excellence in Melbourne, FL, though the F/A-18, F-35, and B-2 programs will remain at their current locations in El Segundo, Redondo Beach, and Palmdale, CA. Two additional Aircraft Integration Centers of Excellence are also being established in Palmdale, CA, and St. Augustine, FL.

The Northrop NATO Airborne Ground Surveillance and MQ-4C Triton programs located in Florida and New York, respectively, will move to the Unmanned Systems Center of Excellence in Rancho Bernardo, San Diego. The company’s Electronic Attack Center of Excellence will transition to Bethpage, N.Y., and include the Aerospace System sector’s Electronic Attack program team.

"Given the current budget environment, it is imperative that we act to enhance future performance, innovation and affordability for our customers," says Wes Bush, Chairman, CEO, and President of Northrop Grumman. "Consolidating these centers of excellence will improve our strategic alignment with our customers' need for increasingly innovative and affordable products, services and solutions."
