Boeing signs $2.2 billion contract for P-8A aircraft

SEATTLE. Boeing has signed a contract worth $2.2 billion with the U.S. Navy, the Australian air force, and the United Kingdom royal air force to supply at least 17 P-8A Poseidon aircraft for the purposes of global maritime patrol and intelligence.
Under the terms of the contract, the U.S. Navy will receive 11 aircraft, while Australia will expand its P-8A fleet with four additional craft. In addition, the British navy will receive its first two P-8A jets, with first delivery set for 2019. The craft -- based on the Boeing 737-800 commercial airplane -- is equipped with up-to-date antisubmarine, antisurface warfare, and intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) capabilities.
The agreement also includes options for 32 additional aircraft, as well as funds for long-lead parts for future orders; after exercising all options, the total value of the contract may be as much as $6.8 billion.
