FREMONT, CALIF. — April 21, 2009 — American Portwell Technology, Inc., (www.portwell.com) a wholly owned subsidiary of Portwell, Inc., a world-leading innovator in the embedded computing market and a member of the Intel® Embedded and Communications Alliance (Intel ECA) is pleased to announce that the PCOM-B214VG COM Express module—another member of its family of innovative products based on Intel’s low-power Atom™ processor—has been chosen to receive the prestigious Editor’s Choice Award from Military Embedded Systems. The PCOM-B214VG is a Type II COM Express module with DDR2 SDRAM, VGA, Gigabit Ethernet, SATA and USB and is the ideal choice for low-power systems and small form factor devices in applications such as retail automation, medical equipment, healthcare automation, industrial process control, portable devices, gaming machines, VoIP, COTS military and energy management.

“Keeps the CPU upgradeable”

Chris A. Ciufo, OpenSystems Media, Group Editorial Director picked Portwell’s PCOM-B214VG for his Editor’s Choice Award in the March/April 2009 issue of Military Embedded Systems and featured the product on page 43 of the publication. Ciufo describes the PCOM-B214VG as an “Atom-based COM Express board for low-power handhelds” such as those increasingly found on the battlefield. He highlights the fact that the PCOM-B214VG places the CPU subsystem on the mezzanine and the system-specific I/O on the carrier card, which “keeps the portion of the system that changes most with the market—the CPU—on a life-cycle upgradeable COTS daughtercard.”

Customers reap the benefits

According to Frank Shen, American Portwell Technology’s product marketing director, fanless, low-power systems and small form factor devices are the way to meet the challenges of today’s embedded systems market. “Portwell is fully cognizant of the market demand of the Intel Atom processor and we intend to exploit that demand so our customers’ applications can reap the benefit,” Shen confirms. “Thanks to our insight, engineering capability and strong partnership with Intel, Portwell is perfectly positioned to ensure our customers stay on the leading edge.”
