LONDON. The Visiongain "Global Military Communications & COTS Markets 2013-2023" report projects that military communications investment will reach $17.46 billion in 2013. Released in February, the defense and security report cites the operational advantages of advanced military communications networks as drivers of spending in both mature and emerging markets, and identifies Commercial Off-The-Shelf (COTS) systems and increased public and commercial partnership as critical to the market estimate.

"Communications investment will remain strong throughout the next decade, with greater focus upon improving existing network structures, developing new SATCOM technology through increased commercial partnerships, and investment in COTS sysyems, which will provide deployment as well as cost-saving advantages," says a Visiongain defense analyst.

The 265-page report provides global military communications and COTS market projections over the next decade, including forecasts for 4 submarkets and 14 national markets in the 2013-2023 timeframe.

"While traditional national markets will remain, there are also many emerging markets around the world increasing their military communications provisions to reflect their economic growth, develop domestic industry through increased knowledge of communications technology, and expand military coverage," the analyst says.

The "Global Military Communications & COTS Markets 2013-2023" report supplies profiles on 20 industry companies including BAE Systems, General Dynamics, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Raytheon, Rockwell Collins, and Thales. Interviews with military communications players Pentek Inc., Gilat Satellite Networks, and SkyWave Mobile Communications are also included.
