WEBSTER FIELD, Md. U.S. Marine Corps officials extended the deployment the of K-MAX Cargo Unmanned Aircraft System (UAS) for the second time this year in theater. K-MAX -- a joint effort by Lockheed Martin and Kaman Aerospace ? was to stay in theater through September 30, the end of this fiscal year. Now its service in Afghanistan will extended for an additional six months with an option to extend through September 2013.

PALMDALE, CA. Engineers at Lockheed Martin Skunk Works and LaserMotive in Kent, WA., joined hands to demonstrate the how a laser can power a Unmanned Aerial System for extended periods of time. During the demonstration a LaserMotive laser powered Stalker Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) to an extended flight time of more than 48 hours ? a 2,400 percent increase in flight duration.

FARNBOROUGH, United Kingdom. Lockheed Martin?s airborne Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) is now available internationally. The AN/APY-12 airborne reconnaissance radar produces high resolution, photo-like imagery, in darkness or inclement weather or darkness. Company officials made the announcement this week at the Farnborough Air Show in the United Kingdom.
