AUSTIN, Texas. NASA has awarded Vorago Technologies two Small Business Innovation Research (SBIR) Phase I grants to develop semiconductor devices that are hardened against the effects of radiation and extreme temperature.

One of the NASA grants tasks the company with designing a rad-hard avionics single-board controller suitable for use in smallsats and CubeSats that is suitably robust for use in long-duration missions in harsh environments, including that of space missions.

Vorago is also set to create a design for a radiation-hardened miniaturized system-in-package (SIP) module that is also optimized for size, weight, and power consumption (SWaP).

Devices based on Vorago's HARDSIL technology -- an optimized rad-hard process using standard manufacturing equipment -- are currently in operation as part of a science study on the International Space Station.
