BURLINGTON, Ontario. L3 Wescam -- a maker of electro-optic/infrared (EO/IR), laser imaging, and targeting sensor systems -- recently won defense contracts valued at more than $90 million. Key defense wins include systems for the U.S. Navy, U.S. Air Force Special Operations Command (AFSOC), U.S. Department of Homeland Security, Royal Australian Air Force, and Royal Thai Navy.

For the AFSOC, L3 Wescam will supply its MX-20D EO/IR designating systems for installation on the Air Force's AC-130J Ghostrider gunship, which has as its missions close air support and air interdiction. For both the U.S. Navy and the Royal Australian Air Force, L3 will supply MX imaging systems for installation on a number of P-8A multimission maritime aircraft (MMA) for support during worldwide naval missions. Recent orders by Homeland Security have seen the L3 Wescam systems configured to tactical helicopters. For its part, Viriyakit Co. of Thailand has awarded L3 Wescam a contract to supply the EO/IR maritime sensor system to the Royal Thai Navy -- L3 Wescam's first MX sale in Thailand -- for the Thai Navy's Krabi Class offshore patrol vessels, which are used for surveillance patrols, border control, disaster relief, and protection of natural resources.
