WASHINGTON. The U.S. State Department has approved a possible sale of AIM-9X-2 Sidewinder short-range missiles and AGM-65G-2 Maverick air-to-ground missiles to the Republic of Korea (ROK), in two separate deals estimated at $70 million each.
According to the Defense Security Cooperation Agency, part of the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD), the proposed sale increases the ROK’s capability to participate in Pacific regional security operations and boosts its national-security posture as a key U.S. ally.
The principal contractor for both proposed missile contracts is Raytheon Missile Systems, Tucson, Ariz.
