Flight-deck system for helicopters from Abaco wins major contract with European tech company

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. Abaco Systems has won orders from a major European technology company that will insert some of Abaco’s hardware platforms deployed at the center of a new helicopter cabin computer.
The European company's helicopter division -- which develops an extensive range of modern rotary-wing platforms for defense, security/public service, and commercial markets -- sought to replace the existing cabin computer, which was based on Abaco’s now-obsolete DAQMAG2A high-performance rugged display computer, onboard its twin-engine helicopter used for long range operations. The company aimed to install flight-deck systems that reduce the workload of pilots, deliver actionable information based on data acquired from a broad range of sensors, and enhance situational awareness.
The initial order is valued at $350,000, with the total lifetime value of the win for Abaco expected to total $1.5 million. Production on the cabin system is scheduled to begin in 2021 following design and integration work.
