VPT releases 5W dual output DC-DC converter for MIL-COTS programs

ELECTRONICA, MUNICH, GERMANY. VPT Inc. announced the VPT5-2800D DC-DC converter at electronica earlier this month. The dual output COTS power converter provides up to 5 W of power from a six-sided metal package that measures in with a small footprint of roughly one square inch.

Developed for use in rugged electronics systems the fixed frequency VPT5-2800D DC-DC power converter has a wide input voltage range from 15 V to 50 V, with a high input transient voltage of 80 V per second. Its dual outputs are capable of +/- 5V, +/- 12V and +/- 15V.

The rugged metal enclosure is internally conformal coated, measures in at 1.110" (L) x 1.110" (W) x 0.4" (D), and weighs only 22g. VPT5-2800D is operational in the military temperature range of -55º C to +100º C, and generates minimal input/output noise. For protection, the converter includes input undervoltage lockout, current limit and short circuit protection, as well as output soft start.

The VPT5-2800D contains a magnetic feedback circuit without opto-isolators, and is compliant with military input voltage standards MIL-STD-1275 (range) and MIL-STD-704A (requirements).

Monty Pyle, Vice President of Sales and Marketing at VPT commented, "Like all of our products, the new VPT5 dual output converter satisfies rigorous design standards that include MIL-STD-704 input voltage requirements, full operation over an extended temperature range, and all-sided metal packaging to provide excellent EMI shielding."

Among others, additional certifications and compliances include DO-160 and environmental screening to JESD22, MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-883.
