Harris wins $255 million contract from U.S. Special Operations for next-gen radios

ROCHESTER, N.Y. Harris Corp. has won a six-year, $255 million ceiling, single-award indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract from the U.S. Special Operations Command to supply powerful next-generation multichannel manpack radios that will enable better communications for U.S. Special Operations Forces (SOF) on the battlefield.
The terms of the contract include the two-channel Next-Generation Manpack (NGMP) radios and the new RF-410 NGPA power amplifier, vehicular systems, accessories and push-to-talk/headset audio subsystems.
According to the Department of Defense (DoD), the NGMP will provide users with the ability to receive and distribute intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) data in the form of full-motion video. The DoD also says that they NGMP will support simultaneous dual-channel line-of-sight and/or beyond-line-of-sight operation using both legacy and advanced waveforms.
The work -- most of which will be performed at the Harris facility in Rochester, New York -- is expected to be completed by June 2023.
