General Atomics bolsters space, avionics, CubeSat business with Tiger Innovations acquisition

SAN DIEGO. General Atomics announced the acquisition of Tiger Innovations (Herndon, Virginia), a company focused mainly on satellite systems plus related hardware and software.
General Atomics officials say that Tiger Innovations will be integrated into the General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) group and will enhance the GA-EMS offerings in the area of cutting-edge advancements in satellite systems and extensive experience in custom hardware and software implementation.
“Acquiring Tiger Innovations strengthens our space systems capabilities,” stated Scott Forney, president of GA-EMS. “Tiger Innovations has made significant advancements in low-SWaP [size, weight, and power] optimized satellite and space systems for a range of U.S. Government customers. With this acquisition, we expand our footprint in northern Virginia and now have a robust coast-to-coast space systems development infrastructure, increasing our ability to deliver comprehensive solutions of any scale on-orbit and on time.”
Speaking about the acquisition, GlobalData defense analyst Sai Kiran stated: “General Atomics’ recent developments have been focused on diversifying its space explorations and small satellites business. The acquisition of Tiger Innovations will further help General Atomics to diversify its product offering in spacecraft avionics and CubeSats market. GlobalData anticipates that CubeSats, along with new launch capabilities and anti-satellite weapons, will drive the market for space systems in the aerospace and defense sector. Global defense forces will benefit from the commercialization of space defense systems in terms of cost and improved capabilities."
