Northrop Grumman Corp. engineers developed the Fourth Generation Tracking Adjunct Sensor (4G TAS), which is the latest upgrade to the company's high-resolution electro-optical/infrared (EO/IR) sensors that are used for the Hawk air defense system. The sensors detect and track low, fast targets in day and night conditions and passes them on to the Hawk's fire control radar.

The Northrop Grumman Common Imagery Processor (CIP) demonstrated the ability to receive, process, and disseminate Global Hawk Block 40 data on the Distributed Common Ground System – Imagery (DCGS-I) testbed in a flight event at China Lake, CA in late 2012. After the testbed received Global Hawk Block 40 concurrent modes data, CIP processed and transmitted the data to downstream ground station components for analysis.

The Fire Scout endurance upgrade, dubbed the MQ-8C and based on Bell Helicopter's 407, will enable ship commanders to have greater range, endurance, and payload capacity over the current Fire Scout MQ-8B variant.

FALLS CHURCH, VA. Northrop Grumman has designated five U.S. centers of design and integration excellence as part of a long-term effort to reduce facilities and costs. The centers will consolidate work supporting the company’s Aerospace Systems sector in the areas of manned aircraft, unmanned systems, and electronic attack, and integrate work from elsewhere at sites in Florida, New York, and California. Northrop also announced plans to close its Dominguez Hills, CA, Information Systems sector facility, and complete the closure of the Norwalk, CT site.

Northrop Grumman UAS Mission Management Control System completes successful flight demonstration - News

SAN DIEGO. The first successful flight of the RQ-4 Global Hawk Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) using Open Architecture (OA)-based Command and Control (C2) software and hardware has been completed by Northrop Grumman. Developed by Northrop’s Common Mission Management System (CMMS), the Mission Management Control System (MMCS) used in the demonstration is an open standards-based common hardware and software architecture intended for implementation across UAS platforms to ease training requirements and increase effectiveness. Held in December, the flight demonstration, was part of the Ground Station Technical Refresh contract and was sponsored by the U.S. Air Force Global Hawk Program Office.

APOPKA, FL. – A new variant of the All Semiconductor Airborne Laser Threat Terminator (ASALTT) that hosts a high power, high brightness Quantum Cascade Laser (QCL) module has been announced by Northrop Grumman. The ASALTT family is a group of infrared countermeasure systems deployed on rotary and fixed-wing military aircraft. The QCL was integrated into the platform in conjunction with Pranalytica, Inc., who customized the performance and properties of the QCL for the new laser design.
