Leonardo DRS has announced that it received multiple orders from the U.S. military and the Italian navy for its Link-11 and Link-22 data terminal sets and associated communication equipment, systems, and services. Forces in the U.S. and other allied countries already use the Link-11 and Link-22 data systems as the primary way to exchange information among airborne, land-based, and shipboard tactical data systems.

CHARLESTON, S.C. The U.S. Navy's Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center (SSC) Atlantic has awarded Science Applications International Corp. (SAIC) a task order worth up to $61 million to perform command, control, communications, computers, intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (C4ISR) engineering upgrades and integration for Army tactical vehicles. The task order has a one-year base period of performance and a six-month exercisable option.

U.S. Air Force Life Cycle Management Center officials selected Raytheon for a $52.6 million contract to deliver three-dimensional expeditionary long-range radar (3DELRR) system. The 3DELRR system will replace the AN/TPS-75 (Tipsy 75), as the principal Air Force ground-based sensor for long range surveillance, detection, and tracking of aerial targets in support of theater commanders.

More than 40 cadets and midshipmen from the U.S. Military Academy, the U.S. Naval Academy, and the U.S. Air Force Academy recently participated in the "Service Academies Swarm Challenge," in which teams formed and tested the capabilities of swarms of highly autonomous unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) invited the young officers-in-training to develop and flight test novel ideas for how best to use UAV swarms in future wars.The three-day experiment concluded with an aerial battle in which the Naval Academy took home the win, a trophy, and bragging rights over its rival academies.
