Long-range surveillance radar -- 3DELRR -- demonstrated to Air Force by Lockheed Martin

SYRACUSE, N.Y. Lockheed Martin engineers completed a demonstration of its prototype Three-Dimensional Expeditionary Long-Range Radar (3DELRR)-range for the U.S. Air Force. It will replace the Air Force's AN/TPS-75 air search radar and become the principal long-range, ground-based sensor for detecting, identifying, and reporting airborne targets.

During the event the radar detected targets launched from the Syracuse airport and surrounding terrain. Lockheed Martin used additional test aircraft for the event, putting the system through more advanced performance detection and tracking scenarios that are expected of long-range radars.

The Air Force is expected to release its request for proposals for the next phase of the program next month or in September. With that competition, the Air Force will ten select one contractor for the engineering and manufacturing development phase, which will be awarded next year.
