SAN DIEGO. Northrop Grumman chose Telephonics Corp. in Long Island, N.Y., for a multimode maritime radar system for the U.S. Navy's MQ-8B Fire Scout vertical takeoff and landing tactical unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV).
Under the contract Telephonics will develop, produce, integrate, and test nine radar systems. The new Telephonics RDR-1700B+ radar will provide the MQ-8B Fire Scout UAV wide-area search and long-range imaging capability that complements the capabilities of its current electro-optical infrared payload.
The Navy put Northrop Grumman, the Fire Scout program prime contractor, under contract to assess and select a radar system to best match the Navy MQ-8B Fire Scout's maritime operational requirements.
