Sparton/Ultra Electronics USSI joint venture wins $30.3 million U.S. Navy sonobuoy contract

SCHAUMBURG, Ill. and COLUMBIA CITY, Ind. Sparton Corp. and Ultra Electronics Holdings -- working together in their ERAPSCO joint venture -- have been awarded subcontracts valued at $30.3 million for the manufacture of sonobuoys for the U.S. Navy. The award is an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (ID/IQ) contract release for sonobuoy requirements under ERAPSCO?s five-year contract.

Production of the sensors -- a tactical sonar system for transmitting submarine activity, one of the core technologies used in antisubmarine warfare -- will take place at Ultra Electronics USSI’s Columbia City, Indiana, facility and Sparton’s De Leon Springs, Florida, facility.

The sonobuoys are expected to be completed by November 2018.
