Navigation system for CH-53K helicopter gets software upgrade from Northrop Grumman - News

WOODLAND HILLS, Calif. Engineers at Northrop Grumman will be modifying software for the LN-251 embedded GPS/fiber-optic inertial navigation system (INS) that flies on the CH-53K Super Stallion helicopter. The work is for a Navy Phase II contract awarded by officials at the Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) in Patuxent River, Md.

NUREMBERG, Germany. Engineers at Eurotech released their first OpenVPX board at the Embedded World show in Nuremberg, Germany this week. The CPU-111-10 is a rugged 6U VPX single-board computer (SBC) that has a quad-core Intel L5408 Xeon processor and 10 Gigabit Ethernet switch in rugged conduction and convection-cooled versions.

Frustrated buy what they say were long standards development processes within PICMG [PCI Industrial Computer Manufacturers Group], leaders of different European embedded computing vendors formed a new standards consortium called the Standardization Group for Embedded Technologies or SGET, which was announced this week at the Embedded World show in Nuremberg, Germany. Founding member companies of SGET include Advantech, congaec, Data Modul, Kontron, MSC, and SECO.

I had a good chat on VPX today at Embedded World in Nuremberg, Germany with Frank Godulla, director of sales for Hartmann Electronic. Godulla says VPX will really explode when interest peaks for VPX products outisde of the military market.
