Harris Corporation has released a backpack version of its KnightHawk tactical cellular network solution, KnightLite, allowing connectivity and smart apps to warfighters at the tactical edge. The mobile cellular networking technology runs on the Universal Mobile Telecommunications System (UMTS), and works in conjunction with primary radio communications to provide high-bandwidth information exchange in areas with minimal-to-no communications infrastructure.

WASHINGTON – Raytheon has released the software-based Small Format Guard (SFG), a cross-domain data transfer solution for SWaP-C-minded mobile tactical forces. The adaptable, multi-level data transfer solution is operable on AdvancedTCA (ATCA) processor boards, Single Board Computers (SBCs), or other rugged 64-bit x86 architectures, and supports a variety of security protocols for mission-specific requirements.

OTTAWA, Ontario. Engineers at CAE in Montreal launched the company’s Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) Mission Trainer. Company officials made the announcement at the Unmanned Systems Canada conference. The new trainer has an open architecture design that uses commercial-off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware and simulation software to create a platform-agnostic training system for UAS pilots, mission commanders, and sensor operators.

WASHINGTON – A Lockheed Martin Foliage-Penetrating (FOPEN) radar technology with the ability to detect slow-moving objects has been approved for further testing. Incorporating the Ground/Dismounted-Moving Target Indication (GMTI/DMTI) technology into a Tactical Reconnaissance and Counter-Concealment-Enabled Radar (TRACER), a U.S. Army test range team displayed the system’s ability to consistently detect moving vehicles and troops that were foliage obscured from a 300-foot tower and ground level. The system will now be integrated into a modular pod for testing on Predator-B or Blackhawk helicopter platforms.
