Charles River Analytics building tools for decision-making under uncertain conditions - News

Intelligent-systems developer Charles River Analytics has received a one-year contract extension -- awarded by the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) and valued at close to $500,000 -- for a system supporting Probabilistic Model-Based Programming Techniques for Prediction, Analysis, and Control, or PROMPT. The system, says the company, is intended for use by system engineers to reason under uncertain conditions.

A contingent of F-22 Raptor fighter jets from Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida, have joined combat air forces from across the nation at Nellis AFB for the joint, full-spectrum readiness exercise Red Flag 17-3. Department of Defense (DoD) officials say that the exercise facilitates readiness training on a higher level, as each unit brings specific expertise and talents to the table; Red Flag exercises teach them to work together as they would in the field, possibly for the first time, before facing an actual threat.

NASA recently awarded Lockheed Martin a Phase II contract to build a prototype of a cislunar --commonly regarded as the deep space between the earth and the moon -- habitat at Kennedy Space Center. Under the Next Space Technologies for Exploration Partnerships (NextSTEP) habitat study contract, the prototype will integrate evolving technologies that will eventually be used in cislunar orbit to keep astronauts safe while onboard and operate the spacecraft autonomously when unoccupied.
