AMSTERDAM. The number of advanced targeting pod (TGP) systems has increased over the last decade as defense departments around the globe aim to build their armed forces lighter, faster, and ready to deploy, according to a new report from Market Forecast, "Global Targeting Pods -- Market and Technology Forecast to 2028."

FRANCE. Sensor and cryptographic solutions provider HENSOLDT France is delivering its Identification Friend of Foe system (IFF) and the Mode 5-capable MSR1000I interrogator for ground-based air defense (GBAD) systems to the MBDA.

SYRACUSE, New York. Saab has won a $32.24 million contract with the U.S. Navy to implement its MK 9 Tracker Illuminator System Replacement Continuous Wave Tracking Illuminator that is aimed at upgrading the Raytheon MK 57 NATO Seasparrow surface-to-air missile system on board aircraft carriers and amphibious assault ships. 

ARLINGTON, Va. BAE Systems announced that the company has received a $93 million Undefinitized Contract Action (UCA) to provide critical sustainment support for the F-35 electronic warfare (EW) system.

CHICAGO, Ill. A Boeing-led team has demonstrated manned-unmanned teaming (MUM-T) capabilities in a virtual environment using the Navy’s MQ-25TM Stingray unmanned aerial refueler, the E-2D Advanced Hawkeye airborne command-and-control aircraft, and the F/A-18 Super Hornet.

UNITED KINGDOM. Concurrent Technologies announced a new 3U VPX conduction-cooled plug in card based on the Intel Xeon W-11000E Series processor (formerly known as Tiger Lake-H) for use as the system controller in high performance sensor based solutions in the defense space.

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE, Calif. The U.S. Air Force conducted its second AGM-183A Air-launched Rapid Response Weapon (ARRW) booster flight test. Officials claim that it did not meet all flight objectives, but that the test did demonstrate several first-time events as the program continues to track toward fielding a hypersonic capability in the early 2020s.

SEA-AIR-SPACE MARITIME EXPOSITION. BAE Systems accounced that it has developed an advanced version of its Advanced Precision Kill Weapon System (APKWS) guidance kit that it says enables enhanced strike distance and precision strike lethality.

FALLS CHURCH, Va. A Northrop Grumman Corporation-built MQ-4C Triton was flown for the first time in the upgraded multi-intelligence configuration known as integrated functional capability four (IFC-4). Triton is the U.S. Navy’s high-altitude, long-endurance (HALE), maritime intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) platform.

GERMANY. Saab has signed a contract with the German Federal Office of Bundeswehr Equipment, Information Technology and In-Service Support (BAAINBw), and has received an order to deliver and integrate new naval radars and fire control directors for and in the German Navy’s Frigates of the Brandenburg-Class (F123).

PATUXENT RIVER, Md. The U.S. Navy conducted its first test flight of the MQ-4C Triton in its upgraded hardware and software configuration at NAS Patuxent River, beginning the next phase of the unmanned aircraft’s development.
