ARLINGTON, Va. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) chose nine companies to produce initial operational system and demonstration system conceptual designs for a vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) uncrewed aerial system (UAS) -- nicknamed the AdvaNced airCraft Infrastructure-Less Launch And RecoverY program or "ANCILLARY -- that will be able to deploy and retreat without the large mechanical launchers and landing/recovery equipment currently used today. 

KONGSBERG, Norway. Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace won a contract valued at NOK 320 million ($29.55 million) for the first phase for development of tactical radio equipment -- which it calls Combat Net Radio -- for Norway's armed forces.

PARIS AIR SHOW. AMETEK Abaco Systems and SYSGO announced that they are teaming up to equip a developer of uncrewed air systems (UASs) with jointly developed certifiable mission computer hardware and software components, including hardware -- Abaco’s SBC314C flight-safety certifiable single-board computer (SBC) -- and SYSGO’s real-time operating system and hypervisor PikeOS.

PARIS AIR SHOW. Honeywell announced that it will lead several consortia under the SESAR [Single European Sky ATM Research] 3 Joint Undertaking partnership and its Digital European Sky program, projects that are intended to accelerate development of innovative air-traffic management (ATM) solutions for Europe focused on advanced levels of automation in all types of airspaces to improve operational efficiency and sustainability.  

ARLINGTON, Va. The James Webb Space Telescope Flight Operations Subsystem Development Team at Raytheon Technologies was recently recognized with a NASA Group Achievement Award for its contributions in developing the Webb Flight Operations Subsystem (FOS).

SAN DIEGO. Cubic Defense won a contract with the Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) under which the RAAF will operate Cubic's SPEAR [Simplified Planning, Execution, Analysis and Reconstruction] air combat training software suite.

CHANDLER, Ariz. Microchip Technology announced its 5071B cesium atomic clock intended to provide multiple industries -- including defense, aviation, telecommunications, data centers, and metrology -- with a long-term, precise timing and frequency solution to safeguard and process data even in the event of Global Navigation Satellite Systems (GNSS) denial or signal jamming/spoofing.

DAVIDSON, N.C. Curtiss-Wright Defense Solutions will provide flight test instrumentation (FTI) equipment in support of the U.S Air Force F-35 Technology Refresh 3 (TR-3) program under the terms of a $24 million contract from Nellis Air Force Base. 

ARLINGTON, Va. Raytheon Technologies reports delivery of its fourth combat-ready high-energy laser weapon system to the U.S. Air Force, with the latest system marked as the first mobile, standalone, 10-kilowatt laser weapon to meet U.S. military specifications.

IEEE INTERNATIONAL MICROWAVE SYMPOSIUM (IMS) 2023, SAN DIEGO. Gallium nitride (GaN) semiconductor maker Gallium Semiconductor is showing its RF GaN products for use in the 5G telecommunications, aerospace, and security arenas at this week's IMS show and exhibition.

(ADI) is demonstrating at IMS 2023 its newly announced Apollo MxFE -- an advanced software-defined, direct RF-sampling, wideband mixed-signal front end platform -- aimed at use in such applications as phased-array radar, electronic surveillance, test and measurement, and 6G communications.

A team of researchers at the Air Force Research Labs (AFRL) and the Massa­chusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) reported a successful demonstration of the capabilities of an aircraft outfitted with artificial intelligence (AI)-enhanced magnetic navigation, known as MagNav.

FAIRFAX, Va. Sensors and image-processing company Logos Technologies (a subsidiary of Elbit Systems of America) reported that its that its BlackKite IR wide-area motion imagery (WAMI) pod was successfully employed for the first time on a U.S. Army Group 4 uncrewed aircraft system (UAS) during the Experimentation Demonstration Gateway Event (EDGE 23) held during May at Yuma Proving Ground, Arizona.
