NEWPORT, R.I.  A U.S. Navy team led by staff of the Naval Undersea Warfare Center (NUWC) Division Newport demonstrated an end-to-end intelligence preparation of the operational environment (IPOE) mission with the Snakehead large displacement unmanned undersea vehicle (LDUUV) prototype. 

MCLEAN, Va. The Mission Technologies division of shipbuilder Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) has won a $79 million Mobility Air Force Distributed Mission Operations (MAF DMO) task order under the U.S. Air Force’s Training Systems Acquisition III contract. 

ARLINGTON, Va. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) chose 11 teams for the first phase of what it's calling the "Space-Based Adaptive Communications Node" or Space-BACN program, which intends to build a low-cost, reconfigurable optical communications terminal that adapts to most optical intersatellite link standards, translating between diverse satellite constellations and creating what the agency dubbed an "internet" of low-Earth-orbit (LEO) satellites.

Communications company SpaceLink has signed a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with the U.S. Army Space and Missile Defense Command Technical Center (USASMDC-TC -- Redstone Arsenal, Alabama) under which the partners will cooperate to explore alternative space communications pathways to ensure resiliency and reduce sensor-to-shooter latency.

CHANTILLY, Va. Flight-training company Veraxx Engineering won a contract worth $40.84 million with the U.S. Navy for the upgrade, integration, and fielding of a completed baseline version of the Marine Corps Tactical Environment (TEn), its simulated and semi-automated aviation training system. 

WASHINGTON. The U.S. Navy asked six companies that specialize in autonomous marine vessels to come up with different concepts for a large unmanned surface vessel (LUSV) that would carry cargo, sensors, and weapons and travel the ocean in addition to the Navy’s manned surface force.

U.S. ARMY/WHITE SANDS MISSILE RANGE, N.M.  Aerospace contractor X-Bow Systems (Albuquerque, New Mexico) reports a succcessful initial launch of its Bolt Rocket -- the first vehicle in X-Bow's new suite of modular boost rockets -- at the White Sands Missile Range.

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) launched a program called "Muons for Science & Security" (MuS2) with the aim of discovering a compact source of muons, which are deeply penetrating subatomic particles -- similar to electrons but about 200 times heavier -- that can be used in a variety of defense and scientific applications because they travel easily through dozens to hundreds of meters of water, solid rock, or soil.

SANTA BARBARA, Calif. Green Hills Software announced that its INTEGRITY-178 tuMP safety-critical real-time operating system (RTOS) will be used in the replacement multifunction controls and displays (RMCD) on the U.S. Air Force's C-5M Super Galaxy strategic transport aircraft. 

FALLS CHURCH, Va. Northrop Grumman and aviation designer Boom Supersonic (Denver, Colorado) agreed to collaborate on a new supersonic aircraft aimed at enabling quick-reaction aviation capabilities to the U.S. military and its allies.
