A team of researchers at the Air Force Research Labs (AFRL) and the Massa­chusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) reported a successful demonstration of the capabilities of an aircraft outfitted with artificial intelligence (AI)-enhanced magnetic navigation, known as MagNav.

FAIRFAX, Va. Sensors and image-processing company Logos Technologies (a subsidiary of Elbit Systems of America) reported that its that its BlackKite IR wide-area motion imagery (WAMI) pod was successfully employed for the first time on a U.S. Army Group 4 uncrewed aircraft system (UAS) during the Experimentation Demonstration Gateway Event (EDGE 23) held during May at Yuma Proving Ground, Arizona.

MENLO PARK, Calif. Space-domain awareness provider LeoLabs announced the commissioning of its Azores space radar site, located on Santa Maria Island in the Azores, off the coast of Portugal. 

SANTA ROSA, Calif. Keysight Technologies has been chosen to lead an agreement between the 6G-SANDBOX technology project and the European Space Agency (ESA) to establish an Open Innovation Laboratory as they work to advance the integration of satellites with terrestrial 5G and 6G networks. 

CHATSWORTH, Calif.  Aitech’s NVIDIA-based, space-characterized S-A1760 Venus artificial intelligence (AI) supercomputer became the first use of GPGPU [general-purpose graphics processing unit] technology in space when it went aloft with the successful launch and re-entry of NASA’s Low-Earth Orbit Flight Test of an Inflatable Decelerator (LOFTID) mission, which occurred in November 2022, the company reported. 

FREMONT, Calif. The global space-based edge computing market is expected to see huge revenue increases from the defense segment, followed by the commercial segment, according to a new study from BIS Research, "Space-Based Edge Computing Market -- A Global and Regional Analysis: Focus on Application, Product, and Country -- Analysis and Forecast, 2023-2033."

PRINCETON, N.J. RF spectrum specialists BANC3 won a multiyear contract with the U.S Department of Defense (DoD) -- under the auspices of the Pentagon's Stimulating Transition for Advanced Microelectronics Packaging (STAMP) program -- to provide its software defined receiver (SDRX) products on Intel's latest multichip packages, as part of the DoD's broader digital-modernization efforts.

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. Mission-critical Linux solution provider Concurrent Real-Time announced release 8.4.5 of its Redhawk Linux real-time operating system (RTOS), designed specifically to support the NVIDIA Jetson AGX Orin platform.

BIGFORK, Mont.  Avionics services company uAvionix Corporation will be included in SURVICE Engineering's production contract with the Navy and Marine Corps Small Tactical Aircraft Systems Program Office to equip U.S. warfighters using Tactical Resupply Unmanned Aircraft Systems (TRUAS) with multirotor drones intended to augment logistical operations at the forward edge of the battlefield. 

ITASCA, Ill. Cloud enterprise provider IFS and defense giant Lockheed Martin announced a joint partnership intended to promote products and services to help defense and aerospace organizations turn data into actionable information for mission platforms. 

ARLINGTON, Va. The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) awarded four contracts for its DRIFT [Digital Radar Image Formation Technology] project, which is intended to improve synthetic aperture radar (several SAR) technology in satellites.

MARLBOROUGH, Mass. RF and microwave provider Metamagnetics officially signed an $11 million contract for the "Shenandoah" program with RF solution provider Azure Summit Technology (Fairfax, Virginia); the contract includes one year of full rate production of the Auto-tune Filter (AtF) component and includes options for the entire follow-on production, possibly worth another $32 million through 2030. 

EGLIN AIR FORCE BASE, Fla.  The U.S. Air Force conducted an operational assessment of a new electronic countermeasures combat training pod -- dubbed "Angry Kitten" -- during 30 sorties over two weeks in April 2023.

SAN FRANCISCO. Open-source blockchain vendor Constellation Systems announced a strategic partnership with SIMBA Chain, a cloud-based, multi-blockchain enterprise development platform, as Constellation enters its next contract with the U.S. Air Force. ,

The Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) is on the hunt for sensors that can handle extreme environments: its new High Operational Temperature Sensors (HOTS) program will work toward developing microelectronic sensor technologies capable of high-bandwidth, high-dynamic-range sensing at extreme temperatures.

DUBLIN. Uncrewed aerial systems (UASs) classified as MALE [medium-altitude, long-endurance] and HALE [high-altitude long-endurance] will continue their growth path into 2031, according to a new study by Market Forecast, "MALE and HALE UAVs -- Market and Technology Forecast to 2031."
